KUNSTRADIO | Neighbourhoods

Heidi Grundmann has worked as cultural reporter, art and theatre critic, editor, program producer and consultant at the ORF (Austrian National Radio/TV) for over 30 years. In 1987 she created the radio program KUNSTRADIO-RADIOKUNST (original artworks for radio). KUNSTRADIO is a still vibrant 45 minute program broadcast weekly on Ö1, the cultural channel of the ORF. Since the beginning of 1995 KUNSTRADIO has its own – artist run – homepage: http://kunstradio.at, which was and is the site of many art projects and live webcasts and a unique archive of international radio art.

Heidi lectures and writes on art and new media and has organized and curated symposia and exhibitions related to art practice in the electronic media – especially radio, TV and the Internet. She was involved in groundbreaking telematic radio art projects and was the editor of several publications such as “Art & Telecommunication”, Vienna/Vancouver, 184; “The Geometry of Science”, Vienna, 1991; “On the Air”, Innsbruck, 1993; “ZEITGLEICH,” Triton Verlag, Vienna, 1994; or “SOUND DRIFTING”, Triton Verlag, Vienna, 2000. In 2000, H.G. was the curator of the audio-part of “RE-PLAY”, an exhibition about the beginnings of international media-art in Austria in the 70s. (Generali-Foundation, Vienna, 2000). In 2003 she curated the symposium “Material Re: Material (remix & copyright)”, a production of Maerzmusik Festival, Berlin, and co-hosted by Deutschland Radio’s “Sonic Art Lounge”, Berlin. Heidi Grundmann produced the event “RE-INVENTING RADIO”, a coproduction of KUNSTRADIO and the ARS ELECTRONICA FESTIVAL 2004. She is also working on a book on radio-art in the 90’s.
